The beefmasters of Valley Home Ranch started like the other companies owned by Michael and Nancy Osmundson.
They were hobbies!
Mike has spent his entire life trying to improve animals by using the best genetics available and if they did not offer the right genetics, he made them. Like the chicken he bred that was colored sky blue! His love for cattle and all other animals started when he was five years old, living on a cattle and hog farm in Northeast Iowa. When he had his fifth birthday, he had to get up at 5 a.m. to milk and care for the 3 Holstein cows used for the family's milk source. Mike was on cloud nine when this happened .
Soon after the start, he started searching for bulls from A.I. companies that would improve his cows the most. On his eighth birthday, he asked his parents for a forty year subscription to a leading dairy magazine so that he could learn more about breeding cows and also to see how each breed of cows differed. He could also compare the breeds and the bulls and cows in them. All of his love for improving the genetics of cattle led to his degree in animal genetics, which was self taught. It always included real life experiments.
This led to the founding of Creative Genetics of Ca.,Inc. This was a one man company for it's beginning and has now grown to be known world wide as the leader in cross bred genetics. Mike was the founder of the Procross system for cross breeding dairy cattle. Today it is the only proven cross breeding system to be positive for the economy of a dairy and the betterment of the health of a cow. She will last longer, be better in reproduction, have higher components and have a higher beef value at the end of her dairy career. The Procross cow is in the dairy world what the Beefmaster is in the beef world.
Kreative Kennels was founded by improving the German Shepherd breed by selecting breeding stock that excelled in hip and elbow health. Kreative is now the best known and the largest breeder and of German Shepherd working dogs in the world. And also has the lowest or at least one of the best ratings for hip and elbow health. Kreative Kennels provides K-9 dogs to the World's police and military departments.
Our foundation beefmaster cattle have been purchased from Swinging B Ranch, J Two Ranch and Frenzel Beefmasters. We are using some of the breeds top bulls through A.I. to form the nucleus of our new herd.
